A Message from our Global South Leaders
Dear ECHO Community,
As leaders of Project ECHO’s locally-headquartered regional offices in India and Kenya, we have a unique view of the challenges to implementing solutions for improving health. We also have a singular view of the opportunities and impact that ECHO can and does have in the communities we live and work in.
Across the global south, Project ECHO’s technology-enabled, human-powered network is driving change for millions.
From state and national health ministries to global health leaders like the World Health Organization to the universities and academic centers that are adapting the ECHO Model to their local contexts, our partners are accelerating the impact of the ECHO movement in resource-scarce settings.
Each region in the Global South faces unique challenges, whether it’s reaching 17,000+ remote islands in Indonesia, overcoming societal barriers in India, difficult terrain in Central and Latin America, or infrastructure in areas of Africa. We’re grateful to have a solution in the ECHO Model that helps local leaders overcome these challenges.
In the true spirit of ECHO, our partners are collaborating to address the most urgent health priorities. Our partner network is keeping frontline health care workers up-to-date on the latest mpox developments, getting low-cost screenings for women’s cancers to the most remote communities, and building workforce capacity to address the growing mental health crisis. As always, we’re proving that together, we can be ready at a moment’s notice to respond to the next public health crisis.
Critically, the ECHO movement is achieving real, measurable outcomes throughout the Global South, and doing so with an intentional focus on gender and racial equity. While the ECHO Model is inherently equitable, our partners are designing programs that go even further in ensuring that women and other underserved populations not only get access to best-practice treatment, but that health care workers at all levels get access to knowledge, mentoring and career development.
As we look to 2025, complex health care challenges will continue to evolve and challeng all of us. We’re confident that the ECHO movement, driven by our vast global partner network, will continue to innovate and collaborate to help them meet those challenges.
Sincerely,
Dr. Caroline Kisia, Director, ECHO Africa
Dr. Kumud Rai, Director, ECHO India
